How We Choose Products

At Recliner Magazine, we research recliners and related products so you can compare them more easily before you buy. We do not run hands-on lab tests, and we do not give products numeric scores. This page explains how we choose the products that appear on our lists.

A Little Bit About Us

Not all recliners are created equal. Some are power recliners, some are rockers, and others are made for small spaces or for two people. We look at recliners from well-known brands and from newer brands whose products look well made. Keep reading to see how we put our lists together.

How We Shortlist the Products

There are so many choices, brands, styles and prices that it can be hard to find the right recliner. Here is how we narrow them down:

  • Product Research: We read the maker’s product pages, specifications, dimensions, weight limits and warranty details.
  • Retailer Listings: We compare listings on large retailers such as The web, including price, availability and the features the seller describes.
  • Customer Feedback: We read verified buyer reviews to spot common praise and common complaints, such as comfort, durability, or assembly problems.
  • Ongoing Checks: We update our lists when products go out of stock or newer versions come out.

General information about posture or comfort is based on published sources. Our articles are not medical advice. If you have pain or a health condition, please talk to a doctor or physical therapist before choosing a recliner.

What We Look At

When we compare products, we look at the details the maker and buyers report, such as:

  • Size and Fit – Seat width, depth, overall dimensions and the space needed to recline.
  • Weight Capacity – The maximum weight the maker lists.
  • Reclining Mechanism – Manual, push-back, or power reclining, and extras like lift, rocking or swivel.
  • Padding and Support – How the maker describes the cushions, lumbar and headrest support.
  • Upholstery – Material type (leather, faux leather, fabric) and how easy the maker says it is to clean.
  • Durability – Frame materials, warranty, and what long-term buyers report.
  • Assembly – How much assembly is required, based on the maker’s instructions and buyer feedback.
  • Extras – Features like cup holders, wheels, USB ports, heat or massage.
  • Price – What you get for the price compared with similar products.
  • Style and Color – The designs and colors on offer.
